Carriers that are unsuitable for infants 0-3 months
Heavily padded ring slings
Ring slings that have a lot of padding in the rails are very hard to adjust and mould to the baby’s body.
 |
This carrier:
- Causes compression because it is hard to shorten the depth of the pouch. This means the baby is poorly supported and cannot be carried safely.
- Is difficult to adjust because the padding is too thick and cannot be pulled through the rings to get the right fit.
- Makes it hard for the parent to monitor baby because the padding is too thick and obstructs your view.
- Is bulky because the padding keeps your arms away from your body.

Close-tailed ring slings
A close-tailed ring sling is one in which the tail that is used to adjust the sling has been sewn into a strap-like shape. Using this carrier with an infant will cause:
 |
- Compression: It’s hard to shorten the depth of the pouch.
- Difficult to adjust: The tail is thick enough to impede adjustments.
